Look around! Birds are everywhere. They are in your backyard, in the farmyard, on the telephone poles, and in the prairies and woods.

And because birds are so easy to observe, find and identify, they provide a natural hook for students to learn about the importance of Nebraska animals and habitats.

This module is intended to support educators by providing interdisciplinary, standards-based opportunities to engage students in real-world learning that helps them understand the unique characteristics of Nebraska’s birds and the importance of bird conservation.

The activities outlined in this module are intended to teach middle school students about birds (both common and rare), their migration patterns, their special adaptations and their habitats.
